Who: One happily-married straight couple is hosting a night of partying to celebrate the
future right of every human being to partake in the sacred vows of marriage.

What: A five-year anniversary party/equal rights fundraising event, the proceeds of which
will go to support Basic Rights Oregon, who works to ensure that all gay and transgender
Oregonians experience equality.

When: August 5, 2011

Where: Refuge, Portland OR

The Vision: On August 6, 2006, a sun-filled Sunday evening, Brian and Saskia stood in
the middle of the Chinese Gardens in downtown Portland, Oregon in the presence of a
reverend, friends and family to exchange vows that would forever link them. During their
ten-block walk to the reception led by a Scottish piper, many people cheered and
congratulated them, joining in the celebration. But those who cheered the loudest had
emerged from Hobos, a local gay bar. It broke Brian and Saskia’s hearts to realize that
those cheering the loudest were not able to enjoy the same happiness, simply because
their bonds of love were to someone of the same sex. As Dan Savage once said, the gay
civil rights movement will never reach critical mass until straight people make it their cause.
We have decided to make it ours. Please come join us in a celebration for all citizens of
this planet to freely celebrate their love for each other.
